Remo Lobetti graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, in 1987. He completed a BVSc (Hons) in 1990, an MMedVet (Med) degree in 1995, and a PhD in 2005. In 1997, he achieved board certification from the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Remo worked in general practice before joining the Department of Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria, in 1992. He initially served as a senior lecturer, later becoming an associate professor and subsequently the Section Head of Small Animal Medicine.
From 2001 to 2022, he worked as an internist at Bryanston Veterinary Hospital in Johannesburg. Currently, he is an internist at Veterinary Specialists Ireland.
Remo is actively involved in teaching and has presented over 140 papers both locally and internationally. He has also published more than 100 papers and contributed 11 book chapters on various aspects of small animal medicine. While his research interests include infectious diseases, his clinical focus encompasses all aspects of small animal internal medicine.
Since 1995, he has been registered as a specialist physician with the South African Veterinary Council. Additionally, he has been a member of the editorial board of the South African Veterinary Medicine journal since 1997. He served as the editor for the 1998 South African Veterinary Association Biennial Congress proceedings and has also edited the proceedings of several other veterinary congresses, including the 2010 South African Para-Veterinary Congress and the 2011 World Veterinary Association Congress.
Remo was a member of the 1999 Iams Company Award Committee and served as the Scientific Editor for the 2006 and 2008 South African Para-Veterinary Congresses. Most recently, he was a speaker at the 2024 FECAVA Congress in Greece.
